“Saints Peter and Paul” Church

The Roman Catholic Church “Saints Peter and Paul” (85, December 21st 1989 Boulevard) was built in neo-Gothic style in the mid-nineteenth century, on the site of a church, probably from the 15th century. In the 16th century the church became Unitarian. The edifice was destroyed during the revolution led by Rakoczi (Curuţi) and was rebuilt on the old foundation in 1711. Five years later, it was given back to Roman Catholics, and in 1724 given to the Franciscan Minorits (Roman Catholic order of Franciscan Minorits). The present edifice was built in the 19th century by Anton Kagerbauer on the place where the old church was degraded.

The portal in Baroque style was originally located in front of St. Michael Church and behind the church the statue of the protective Virgin Mary (the Statue of plague) is to be seen, located initially on the current Universitatii Street.
